SANGALAKI DIVE LODGES AND
RESORT
How many times
have
you wished that you had the chance to visit a new dive
destination before the rest of the world "Discovered"
it. Sangalaki is such a place, and we want to share it
with you. The Island of Sangalaki is located off the
East coast of the Indonesian portion of Borneo. The
Sangalaki Dive Lodge resort is uncrowded, the diving is
spectacular, and exotic marine life that you've probably
only seen in National Geographic is plentiful. You'll
see Cuttlefish, Blue Ribbon Eels, Frogfish, Turtles,
Manta Rays, Sharks, DOZENS of Species of Nudibranchs,
HUNDREDS of species of hard and soft corals schools of
brightly colored Fusaliers and ZILLIONS of colorful reef
fishes.

The Island of Sangalaki and it's surrounding reefs are
protected as an Indonesian Marine Park. Withou
t
the destructive effects of explosives and cyanide
fishing, Sangalaki has remained a pristine example of an
untouched tropical marine ecosystem. In a world where
every resort claims to be situated in a "divers
paradise", Sangalaki truly deserves the honor.
Sangalaki is the prime nesting site for Green Sea
Turtles in South East Asia. Sangalaki Dive Lodge
sponsors conservation programs to protect the endangered
turtles.
In July 2001, Sangalaki Dive Lodge became an independent
resort and is no longer associated with Borneo Divers &
Sea Sports (Sabah). Borneo Divers founder, Ron Holland,
who pioneered diving on both Sipadan and Sangalaki left
Borneo Divers & Sea Sports to concentrate on Sangalaki
Dive Lodge. The Resort unfortunately closed in late
2005. Rainbow Divers-Vietnam founder, Jeremy Stein,
became a partner in 2006. Now Ron & Jere
my,
together with their wives, Aima & Caroline, and the
senior management team at Rainbow Divers, run the day to
day management of the Resort.
There are 2 main structures on the beach the first is
The Dining Hall, which houses the Eating & Relaxing
areas, Bar, Sun Terrace, Dive Boutique & TV/Reading
room. The other is the Dive Station where all equipment
is stored, where the compressors are kept and where pre
dive briefings are held. There are rinse tanks for gear,
one exclusively for Camera/Video equipment and an
outside drying area.
Scattered along the beach on either side of the Dining
Hall & Dive Station are 12 NEW attractive individual sea
view beach chalets. They are spacious and separated from
each other by a comfortable distance for privacy. Each
attractively decorated chalet is built on stilts about 3
ft. (1M) above the sand to allow passage for the turtles
that nest on
the beach every night. The chalets have their own
verandas, Twin/Double beds, Air-con and a private
bathroom with hot water showers.
Fresh water on the Island is in limited supply. We will
therefore ask for your understanding & consideration for
water conservation. Electricity for the Island is
produced via our Generators. Again we will ask for your
understanding regarding use of Air-Con etc.
The Chalets offer very clean & comfortable
accommodation, but the emphasis on Sangalaki is
definitely the diving, so please don’t expect 6 star
Hotel rooms – we are after all, an exclusive Island in
the middle of nowhere!!
